What does Wordsmith Forge mean?

  • A smith is a person who works with metal. You would visit a smith if you wanted a sword made, or a shield, or a metal tool. The profession also gave its name to the most common English surname: Smith.

  • A smith works with metal, but a wordsmith works with words. If you have a large vocabulary and can use words beautifully, or if you are a fantastic writer, you are a wordsmith!

  • A smith uses a forge in order to heat up metal so that it can be shaped. As a verb, to forge also means to make something out of metal like a smith does, or to produce something that was difficult to make: for example, two countries can forge a good diplomatic relationship.

  • At Wordsmith Forge, our goal is to forge YOU into a wordsmith, of course -- and give you the skills not merely to use English, but to use it confidently, precisely and elegantly.
